Knights of Columbus plan Tootsie Roll Drive this weekend

The annual Vinton Knights of Columbus Persons with Intellectual Disabilities Drive will be held this weekend, Saturday, Oct. 11 and 12th. KC’s will be outside several area businesses distributing large Tootsie Rolls for a donation to help two organizations that aid intellectually disabled people in the community. Locally, you’ll find the Knights outside Fareway and Theisen’s in Vinton, and at Roy’s Grocery in Shellsburg.

Wesley UMC plans Appalachian Craft Fair, Oct. 11

On Saturday, October 11, 2014, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Wesley United Methodist Church and Red Bird Mission Crafts will be hosting an Appalachian Craft Fair in the church's basement. The fair will feature a variety of handmade crafts including baskets, weaving, pottery, wooden toys and kitchen utensils, pewter jewelry, dolls, ornaments, and corn husk flowers.

Horizons plans open house, Oct. 16

Horizons, A Family Service Alliance will be hosting an Open House on October 16, 2014 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.  Come and learn about Horizons and the Family Support Program.  There will be refreshments served and a drawing for prizes.  Horizons is located at 215 North K Avenue in Vinton.  The Family Support Program is generously funded by Better Tomorrows Early Childhood Iowa and Benton County Community Foundation.

Center Point Historical Society and American Legion & Auxilary to host WWII Vets

October 26—Annual Community Harvest Potluck hosted by the Center Point Historical Society and the American Legion and Auxiliary, at the LJL Hall. Supper at 5 p.m. Program at 6 p.m. World War II veterans and families are special guests. All veterans and community members are invited. Informal program will be reminiscing about Center Point in the Forties and telling war stories—everyone is invited to participate.

Eastern Iowa Paranormal to present at The Ray House October 25

Eastern Iowa Paranormal to present at The Ray House, Saturday, October 25, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Ray House is located at 912 1st Ave. Vinton. EIP will present the results of their investigations at the Vinton Train Depot, Horridge House and Ray House. Video and audio clips will be interpreted. Reservations are required, limited seating available.
